About this accreditation

The highest level of specialisation in veterinary nutrition available in Europe. Diplomates complete a 3-5 year supervised residency, publish at least 2 peer-reviewed papers, and pass the ECVCN Diploma Examination. Re-evaluated every 5 years. Only ~56 Diplomates worldwide.

Who can hold this accreditation

Must be a veterinary surgeon who completes a 3-5 year supervised residency under an ECVCN Diplomate, publishes at least 2 peer-reviewed papers, writes 3 case reports, and passes the diploma examination.

Referral requirement

As vets, can see patients directly. Most work in referral/specialist settings.

Title protection

The RCVS recognises EBVS qualifications for the Specialist List. 'European Veterinary Specialist' is trademarked by the EBVS. The 'Specialist' title is protected by the RCVS in UK practice.
